SWIM TRENDS 2013: SNEAK PEEK

Here’s a sneak-peek to this summer’s Mercedes-Benz Miami Fashion Week Swim 2013, runway looks by brands across the globe. For Spring/Summer 2013, designers will be introducing swimwear and apparel trends including Detail: Fringe and Tassels; Prints: Animal inspired and Aztec; and Silhouettes: High-waisted and Sexy One-Pieces. For more information on the shows taking place at The Raleigh Hotel July 19 – 23 or in need of images/press materials on a specific designer, please let me know.

L*SPACE put “Fringe” on the map – designer Monica Wise started incorporating fringe about 6 years ago and returns year after year due to the high demand of this specific style. This year, they’ve created an updated version of their fringe bikini that features knots and will offer new colors for the summer season.

Literal Animal Print (birds): Poko Pano by Paola Robba incorporates a vibrant color palette, reminiscent of the tropical shades found in Salvador. The collection’s prints are influenced by Brazil’s lush flowers, tropical hibiscus and coconut trees of the region.

High-waisted bottoms and signature Cut-outs: KEVA l J by Keva Johnson Offering geometric contours and bold hues, the line features 15 boho chic-inspired pieces, including edgy but functional bikinis, signature one-piece cutouts and maxi dresses that incorporate nontraditional prints, ethnic tones and cutting-edge styles.

Tassels & Aztec prints: Vancouver-based brand and designer Anna Kosturova specializes in hand-crocheted swimwear, cover-ups and tie-dye silk resort wear. Inspired by a beachy California bohemian rocker aesthetic and a sexy yet innocent Saint Tropez romance, this handcrafted couture collection is made with the environment in mind.

Naïla, created by Franco-Swiss designer Naïla Chbib, will unveil a women’s collection inspired by her French heritage along with her existing men’s and boy’s collections. The collection combines heritage and craft with a modern, sleek silhouette. Naïla’s men’s and boy’s collections will also be shown, all pieces of which are all eco-friendly and made of quick-dry recycled polyester.

Sexy One-piece: Swimwear brand Dorit will set the stage for 2013 with its renowned fine Italian fabrics, reversible styles and exclusive handmade prints. The first, “On Stage,” features playful polka dot prints and sold black with embroidery detail; the second, “French Riveria,” offers vivid corals, exotic yellows and cool ocean blues in both solid colors and incorporated in Dorit’s original print; and the third, “Straw & Hay,” contrasts soft white cotton with lightweight jute print to create a strong yet feminine fit. The trio, inspired by the resurgence of 1950s and 60s fashions, was created to offer pieces that could be mixed and matched between collections.
