TT: CROP TOPS

We are going to throw it way back today with crop tops! If you can believe it, crop tops were actually first worn many many years ago by Middle Eastern Belly Dancers as a form of decorative beaded bralets. They didn't become popular in North America until the mid 80's when Madonna wore a black mesh crop top in her music video for 'Lucky Star'. Because she was the first popular artist to wear the crop top, from then on, the craze spread very fast and it wasn't long after that everyone followed.

The trend has died and risen many times and it is rising once again for this Spring/Summer. The crop top has always been a love/hate piece for fashionistas but with that being said, it is a very versatile piece that can be worn tight or baggy with high wasted shorts, skirts, pants, etc. During New York Fashion week we saw crop tops all over the runway from designers including Lela Rose, Tracy Reese, Phillip Lim & Zimmerman.

What crop top style will you be sporting this spring/summer?

Shoesday Tuesday: HIS SHOES TELL ALL

Well it's not quite ABC's hit show "The Bachelor" and don't worry I won't even comment on JP's style and lack there of class, but it is true what they say, you can judge a guy by his shoe game. Don't believe me? Think of it this way, it shows how much he cares about his belongings. I'm not saying that a scratch or scuff makes him a douchebag, I am just saying that a guy who owns and respects shoes, definitely respects other aspects of his life too.

Ways to tell what kind of guy you have on your hands:

  • Nice suit with chucks = Rebel with a lost style cause. This guy could care less about appropriate-ness or details for that matter. Don't expect him to remember your birthday or your grandma's first name.
  • He owns an expensive pair of dress shoes, but leaves them scuffed and unpolished = A Boy who will never grow up. Not only does he not care about taking care of things, but don't expect him to want to provide for you either. He's more of a bigger better deal kinda guy, when the shoe has served its purpose he replaces it with another younger version.
  • Jeans, shirt, and a pair of shoes from the 90's = a guy who is still living in the past. He isn't quite in Peter Pan-syndrome, but he somehow thinks he's trying to bring back retro style. Little does he know "Vanilla Ice" isn't the fashion icon.
  • Cute style & tries to stay current = a man who is trying to impress you. We all love a man who can dress or at least tries to dress to impress us. We can't be the only ones spending money to look good.

Makeover Monday: Design Your Own Tan

Me with my Luxury Gift Set at Oscar Suite
How do you design your own tan? With airbrush there are only a few levels and then those lotions and potions that streak, those turn you more orange than brown. Well, we'd like to introduce you to a product so revolutionary that the longer you leave it on, the darker you get.

And don't worry, Oompah loompah orange isn't on their color palette.

It's not just the color that you'll love, but the scents of their lotions

1. IRIDESCENCE.
Add some sheen to your daily attire. Whether its a top or a skirt, the future of fashion is bright. Not that bold? Then play with iridescence in your accessories.

2. SUITS.
We've always been enamored by men's suiting and no woman wears a suit better than Sharon Stone. Get suited in a floral pattern or print for a sexy play on feminine-masculine fashion.

Suit blazer & slacks available at riverisland.com.

3. LUXE SWEATSHIRTS.
Sweatshirts are making a major splash on the spring runways. Paired with prairie skirts and shorts, it's not just for your yoga pants anymore. The baggy looks isn't fresh, but a more sophisticated silhouette offers a flattering approach to what we are accustomed too.

4. BLACK & WHITE.
That is how life usually is right? And it was a hit song for Michael Jackson, so it should come as no surprise that this trend is still popular. Forget 50 Shades of Grey, compliment your Spring attire with a perfect contrast.

5. WHITE HOT.
White is not just a color we wear before Labor Day, in the winter it's referred to as "Winter White" and this spring it's all about the WHITE blouse. Clean, crisp and chic, dress this top up or down and you will be pretty pristine.

TT: FLANNELS

Flannel's became popular in the 90's due to Nirvana and the Seattle grunge scene. With the flannel being so versatile they were worn in every which way; around the waist, unbuttoned over t-shirts or tucked into belted jeans or shorts. Isn't it amazing the way fashion works? The way trends come and go every year. Well, I couldn't be more thrilled to see this one come back around. As it makes its way back, designers are obsessed with faux-flannel plaid print and it was proven on the runway this year on everything from shirts to jackets to skirts, etc.  As you can see with designers such as Tadashi Shoji and Costello Tagliapietra.

Here are a few other examples of celebs showing us how they wear their flannels in this day & age...

Now go in your closet and whip out those old flannels because no matter how you style them, they rock!

MW: HOLLYWOOD'S REIGNING MEN. (OSCARS 2014)

There was a lot of BROMANCE going on last Sunday at the Academy Awards, the men brought their fashion game. Fellas, take note, there is NOTHING SEXIER than a MAN who knows how to dress well. So pick up the latest issue of GQ magazine or read Wednesday's blogs religiously because they are catered to you! Mensday Wednesday is all about what's hot in menswear and who's celeb style is making the ladies swoon!

Here is a quick Red Carpet Re-Cap of my Leading Men for Best Dressed, . . .drum roll please?

TEXAS GENTLEMAN.
Alright, alright, alright, his style is way more than just "Alright." What looks better with a sexy well-tailored white tux by Dolce Gabbana, just a little gold hardware! Academy Award winning actor for Best Actor in a Leading Role, (wow! what a mouthful) Matthew McConaughey turned heads with his style choices this award season. There was no surprise that at Oscars it wouldn't be elevated more. Congrats McConaughey on the big W for your talents, your style, & your heart!

LOVIN' LEO.
Just like I told Wanda McDaniels of Giorgio Armani, "I have never seen Leo look better," Leonardo DiCaprio may have lost Best Actor in a Leading Role to Matt, but he definitely didn't lose on his style. Suited in Armani's best, he looked fresh and dapper, just like his character in The Great Gatsby. Nominated for his Wolf on WallStreet role, we think this King of Hollywood is sexy from the boardroom to the ballroom.

AMERICAN HOTTIE.
One word, "YUM." American Hustle heart throb, Bradley Cooper is the epitome of that word. He's like a living Ken doll. I don't think I've really ever seen him look bad on the carpet, but oh, does he wear a tux well. It's like he was born in one. Guys, take notes, if you want to impress the ladies even more, bring out your BOND style. This suit is on point with a striking detail on the peak lapel. Although no one really mentioned the designer, if I had to guess, I'd say Tom Ford. We like the black buttons, it gives an Old Hollywood charm to the ensemble. Only one thing missing from Mr. Cooper's attire, . . .a gorgeous leading lady.

OUT OF THIS WORLD.
Not your typical celebrity on a "Best Dressed" list, Kevin Spacey stepped it up at the Oscars on Sunday in his blue Burberry tux. House of Cards was nominated and he pulled out all the stops to insure his vote for Best Dressed that is for sure. We are loving this look on you Kev, keep it up!

SEEITFIT.COM

Have you ever wanted to wear what the celebrities wore? Ever wonder what it would be like to try on Sandra Bullock’s stunning navy Alexander McQueen that she wore at the Oscars last Sunday? Don’t you wish there was a technology that would allow this to happen? I mean after all it is 2014, right?

Weren’t we suppose to already have closets like Cher from Clueless? Guess what?? THERE IS! I discovered this amazing website www.SeeItFit.com just browsing the web and I fell in love. Fashionistas this is OUR social media. What is better than SEE-ing the hottest trends, finding IT (the perfect piece!), and trying it on to see if it will FIT.

I know what you are thinking right now, wait how is this all possible? And how do I try it, right? Is it free? When I say it’s simple, that is an understatement. Think of this as a stylish solution that solves the dressing room blues.

Yes, it’s possible.
You go to www.SeeItFit.com (or just click the link)
Have your friend take a full body shot of you and upload it! So simple!
And YES, it’s FREE to try on as many outfits as you want! No more listening to your boyfriend or husband moan and groan because you are taking to long at the mall!

Let’s just talk a minute about DESIGNERS!!! DESIGNER clothing, . . .no matter what your budget, there is something for everyone from Coach to Net a Porter, Michael Kors, Alice and Olivia, and I am just barely scratching the surface of your favorite lines.

How many of us go shopping with our best friend and we stand in a stagnant dressing room with poor lighting and those mirrors! Oh wow! Those mirrors have caused too many tears over the years. And then guys, are the ones who run in and buy without ever trying it on and well, ladies, let’s be honest, we are stuck with all these returns!

As a Celeb Stylist, this is not only a fabulous tool for all of us fashionistas, but it's a tool I use with my celebrity clients to determine if something works without ever having to have them try it on in person. My clients are all over the world, shooting films, red carpet premieres, or even on vacation. This website is a blessing for stylists because it allows us to create the looks that we need to keep our client on the 'Best Dressed' lists.

Shoes-Day Tuesday: ACADEMY AWARD WINNING SNEAKERS?

Is it true? Is there an actually Academy Award winning sneaker? Some would say yes. Last night NBA Hall of Famer, Michael Jordan unveiled the Jordan that was inspired by the Oscars. Trying to connect the legend Michael Jordan to Hollywood? Well, I mean there was Space Jam and maybe a few commercials? But the household name is synonymous with edgy, trendy, and an item that you will be spending a good portion of your life in line for.

NBA trendsetters like Russell Westbrook were seen rocking' these unique sneaks honoring the Academy Award celebration.

Some question if this is a good or bad marketing scheme, what's next, an official GRAMMY Jordan?

Either way, the wait to get your hands on these limited edition golden kicks took upwards of 12 hours. And you fellas say that we are in love with our shoes?

RED CARPET RE-CAP: OSCARS 2014 BEST DRESSED (LADIES)

Last night Hollywood came out with their fashion guns ablaze, . . .this is the first time in years, I actually had a few favorites.

Here's MY FAVORITES from the 2014 Academy Awards Red Carpet. (Wanna see what you would look like in Sandra Bullock's Alexander McQueen gown? NOW YOU CAN! Go to SeeItFit.com and see how you look in last night's favorite looks! Share them with friends!)

PASTEL PRINCESS.
All Hail Academy Award winner for Best Supporting Actress, Lupita Nyong'o for her impeccable Nairobi blue Prada gown. This gown was effortlessly chic. I love the simplicity in the earrings and headband. Lupita definitely brought her fashion A game this award season. Way to go! We can't wait to see what she has in store for us next.

FACT: Lupita's performance not only won her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, but she was also part of the ensemble that won Best Picture for 12 Years of Slave.

DEFYING GRAVITY.
Oh Sandy, how we love thee. We weren't to impressed earlier this award season, but we seem to think that is because you were saving the best for last, and darling, you nailed it! Sandra Bullock looking happy, healthy, and absolutely stunning in a navy strapless Alexander McQueen. She was serving us some Old Hollywood glamour reminiscent of the screen sirens Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn.

FACT: The film Gravity, in which Bullock starred in won for Best Musical Score at the Academy Awards.

KISS ME KATE.
Hollywood royalty's favorite, Kate Hudson shone brightly on the carpet in a gorgeous Atelier Versace gown that reminded us of the Tom Ford number with the cape that Gwyneth Paltrow donned a few years back and we were elated. The deep plunging V-neck was just the right amount of sexy and classy wrapped into one very impressive package.

FACT: Kate Hudson is the mother of 2! We all hope to have bodies like hers after we have kids one day! Keep up the hard work Ms. Hudson, the gym time looks great on you.

GOLDEN GODDESS.
Sweet songbird, Kristin Chenoweth lit up the carpet with a gold geometric gown by Roberto Cavalli. Chenoweth attended the Oscars supporting her new beau who was nominated for his film Captain Phillips. This petite bombshell made a definite upgrade from Bachelor star 'Jake Pavelka' to one of the hottest Hollywood producers, Dana Brunetti. I wonder if they've discovered 51 Shades of Grey?

FACT: I art directed & styled Kristin Chenoweth for the Fall cover of Beverly Hills LifeStyle magazine. My inspiration was an homage to Marilyn Monroe. She was simply lovely!

Makeover Monday: Plain Nails Make Me Sad

In the words of Zooey Deschanel, “plain nails make me sad”. So ladies, lets all take a tip from the quirky actress and make sure we are always taking care of those pretty little fingers. Having freshly manicured hands are something that all people look at. Clean, painted nails show others that you take care of yourself. If you aren’t taking care of that, what else are you not taking care of?

For the most perfect manicure ever, there are three products that are MUST haves. OPI Nail Envy Original Formula is the foundation for this mini mani. Apply two coats to a clean nail bed to help strengthen the natural nail. I never start the polish process without this.

The fun part is choosing your favorite color to make your nails stand out.  I usually go for my Essie Raspberry Red. This color is perfect for every day and can be worn no matter what the time of year.

Now, a good top coat may be the most important thing you will ever purchase. This finishes off the manicure and gives your nails a high shine, glossy look. My go to top coat? Seche Vite dry fast top coat. This should be on every girls list of things to buy. My polish lasts longer and looks as if I have just run to the nail salon for a manicure. The best part about this, it dries in 2 minutes!!! Who has time to sit for 20 minutes to watch paint dry. Pun intended!

These three things can be found at any beauty supply store and even some drug stores. They are investments and save you time and money that you would otherwise spend at the nail salon.

See you next week for another Makeover Monday!
